Hi, I'm Vanessa, 20 years old and recently graduated at PIXL VISN media arts academy in Cologne.
I want to specialize in modeling, sculpting and texturing of characters, creatures, en, environments and props.
How i got into art...
When I was about 9 I started playing computer games. World of Warcraft to be exact. My father brought me into it. I used to sit besides him as a child and watch him playing. I really fell in love with this game and blizzards graphics style.
I always loved drawing and painting (and still do) so I drew my own characters and other fantasy stuff (or at least I tried).
At the age of maybe 8 or 9 I visited my first art courses where I went once a week.
In 2016, so when i was 16 years old my father told me about Blender and that I should try it out, so I started working with 3D. At this point i didn't even know what a 'render' was... so i had a lot to learn.
I started to make a little rpg with a friend of mine in Unreal Engine. He was responsible for the technical stuff and I modeled, textured the buildings and painted the UI. I loved that project and i'm still a bit sad that we never really finished it.
But still I learned a lot through it.
In 10th grade I still had no real clue what I want to do after school, but at least I knew at this time that it should be something creative...
So I went to the Landes Kunst Gymnasium Rheinland-Pfalz. There are only two art schools like this in Germany, so I was really happy and proud that I passed the recruitment test in arts. Even though I already used the 3D space for my art i never thought about becoming a professional 3D Artist. I really don't know why... it simply never came into my mind.
In 2017, my boyfriend went to the GamesCom in Cologne were he spotted PixlVisn and got invited to their open house event.
Well he neither was interested in 3D nor any other kind of art, but he knew that I was, so he offered to take me with him to this open house day.
I got so inspired by the work of the student there that I seriosly considered on attending this school.
I thought about it over a year because it was a lot of money and I would have to move to cologne...
But finally I decided that this was the kind of art that fits best to me. So i went for a weekend to Cologne again and took part at one of the PixlVisn workshops. It was the first time that i was completey on my own in a big city, what was really scary for me. But somehow i arrived at home savely...After some weeks I had a very improvised Interview at PixlVisn. I actually only wanted a meeting to get some informations and ask questions, but someone missunterstood me and I found myself in an interview. But nevertheless I got a positive feedback and I started at PIXL VISN in October 2019 after my High School Diploma.
